Location reminders not working

Work through these checks in order:

  1. GPS is enabled. Open device Settings → Location and make sure location is turned on.
  2. App has location permission. Go to Settings → Apps → Life Reminders → Permissions → Location. The permission must be set to Allow all the time (not “Only while using the app”), especially on Android 10 and later.
  3. Battery optimization is not blocking the app. Android’s power management can prevent background location updates. See Why are my reminders not firing? for device-specific steps.
  4. Radius is not too small. Very small zones are unreliable because GPS accuracy varies by environment. A radius of at least 100–200 metres is recommended for most use cases.

Android’s geofencing system batches location updates to preserve battery. A delay of 2 to 5 minutes is normal. If delays are consistently longer:

  • Check that background location is fully enabled (see step 2 above).
  • Disable any power saving or ultra-battery modes while testing.

Reminder keeps repeating after being dismissed

Location reminders work like recurring reminders. Dismissing one schedules it again for the next time you enter or leave that zone.

To stop it permanently: open the reminder and enable the “Mark as permanently closed” option (or delete the reminder).

Restart your device. This refreshes Android’s background location services and usually resolves the issue.

Some manufacturers add a second layer of location restriction outside of the standard Android permissions. Check these:

  • Samsung: Device Care → Battery → Background usage limits — make sure Life Reminders is not listed under “Sleeping apps” or “Deep sleeping apps”.
  • Huawei / Honor: App Launch settings — set Life Reminders to “Manage manually” and enable all background options.
  • Xiaomi / MIUI: Battery saver → choose Life Reminders → enable Background Activity and No restrictions.

If none of the above helps, contact [email protected] with your device brand, Android version, and a description of what happens.
